Last November, the third village assembly of the "Light Cafés" of Tchinacommey, Kpacomey, and betingao took place, marking a significant milestone in the realization of this project led by the association. The main goal of this meeting was to form a group of 19 individuals whose role is to maintain the infrastructure of the light cafés and to represent the villagers to the suppliers and executors of the project.
This diverse group is composed of a member of the Association of Users and Actors of Water and Sanitation of Lake Nokoué (AUAEAN), a representative of the municipality, an employee of Sonagnon, as well as 16 villagers, including equally 8 women and 8 men, distributed among the three concerned villages.
It's important to note that the concept of "Light Café" aims to ensure access for all to sustainable energy services, providing the population and local artisans with the necessary means to develop their activities, especially those requiring electricity. Currently, only the light café of Tchinacommey is operational; the light cafés of Kpacomey and Gbetingao are expected to open in the coming months.
During this meeting, Maxime and Pacôme, civil servants with Emmaus Benin, spoke to raise awareness among the residents about the importance of volunteering in the success of projects of this nature. They emphasized the need for a strong, united, and active community to guarantee the ongoing success of these initiatives.
This meeting also strengthened the bonds between the population and the project's actors, promoting better consideration of the needs expressed by the community in the continuation and evolution of the light café project.
We warmly thank Electricians Without Borders for their continuous support, which made the realization of this project possible.
