Sonagnon
Issues related to energy, water sanitation, and female dignity are at the heart of Sonagnon's fight. However, the education of children and youth remains their top priority.

Our History
The Sonagnon association was established in 1998 by fishermen who decided to come together to improve their living conditions. Their goal was to create forums for reflection to foster youth awareness of their role in the development of their environment. They also continue to unite to fight against the violation of children's rights and to raise awareness about this issue. Since then, Sonagnon has aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to implement its social actions and has made them the cornerstone of its operations.
Schooling for Children
Sonagnon covers the school fees for children, primarily orphans and those in need. To this end, the association supports mothers in their income-generating activities so that they can earn enough income to keep their children in school.
Sonagnon also equips several school libraries.
Electrification of Lake Villages
Sonagnon actively participates in the electrification of lake villages through the "Café Lumière" program, which ensures everyone's access to sustainable, constant, and modern energy services. The association has built 4 power plants, with 2 more in the planning stages. These plants operate with solar panels and a generator at night. They power schools, street lighting, and a reception area available for the population and village artisans who need electricity to develop their activity.
The local populations are fully involved in the management of these power plants.
Sonagnon also provides solar lighting kits to families living on the lake. These kits ensure the continuity of daily family life activities, as well as income-generating activities, and allow children to study after nightfall.

Access to Drinking Water for Lake Villages
Sonagnon is a probationary member of Emmaus International, with whom it has carried out the project of access to drinking water and sanitation. From 2006 to 2016, nearly three billion CFA francs were mobilized to impact more than 65,000 people in the municipality through the construction of 267 latrine blocks and 09 water supply systems.
Fish Market on Lake Nokoué
The fish market is an income-generating activity for the Sonagnon association and helps finance the association's activities.
The fish market also allows villagers to easily and quickly access quality fish since the market is located on the lake. However, the fish market is only open during the dry season, as the rising waters significantly impact the sales of the fish market.
Our Projects
Digital Relay and Digital Boat
Organic Agriculture Project
The Sonagnon association wishes to install digital relays in the surrounding schools to allow students to acquire essential digital skills today.
Sonagnon also plans to set up a mobile digital relay on a boat, which would provide computer equipment and a connection even to the most isolated populations.
The Sonagnon association wants to develop agricultural activity: market gardening, fish farming, and livestock farming.
This project would allow the association to generate more income and, therefore, develop child sponsorships and social projects.
